Catharine Stone [st.1.7]

Catharine Stone was the eighth child of William Stone & Ann christened August 23rd, 1835 at Tipton, Staffs.

In 1851 Catharine was working as a house servant for Thomas Haines & family, a coal mine agent, at Hill Top, West Bromwich.

In Oct-December 1856 Catharine married Joseph Glover at St Bartholomew, Wednesbury, Staffs.  Joseph was born c1836 at West Bromwich.

In 1861 Joseph was living at King St, West Bromwich & was an iron moulder.  He was described as married & head of the household but Catharine was in the same dwelling as her sister Mary Ann, now married to Richard Price, in Knutton, Silverdale at the time of the census.  Catharine was a dressmaker & with her were her 2 sons – Edward (3) & Joseph Richard (7 months).

Catharine died aged 32 at Knutton & was buried on August 29th, 1867 at St Luke, Silverdale.

The children of Catharine Stone & Joseph Glover were:

st.1.7.4  Clara Jane Glover born Oct-December 1863 at West Bromwich, Staffs

Joseph remarried in April-June 1868 at Pontypool, Monmouthshire, Wales.  His new wife was Sarah Jane Stokes who had been born in West Bromwich c1850.  Joseph & Sarah were found in the 1871 census living at the Cottage, Upper Llanfrechva, Monmouthshire, Wales.  Joseph was still an iron moulder.  With them were children William (Edward) aged 13, (Joseph) Richard aged 11, Clara Jane (7),  John H (4) & Samuel (2).

The family were not found in the 1881 census.

In 1891 Joseph & Sarah Jane were living at Park St, Viewpark, Cambusnethan, Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland & Joseph was now a foreman iron moulder.  Children with them were John Henry, an iron moulder, Samuel, a blacksmith, Elizabeth Ann (18), a professor of music & Harry (8). 

By 1901 Joseph & Sarah had moved to 6 Wilton Hill Terrace, Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland & Joseph was still a foreman iron moulder.  Only son Harry was still at home & he was a sailor’s apprentice.  Daughter Elizabeth & son John Henry were living together at 10 Wilton Path, Roxburghshire at the time of the census & John was still working as an iron moulder.
